Prof. Burcu Özsoy received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Yıldız Technical University, Department of Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering. She started to work as a lecturer at Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty in 2001 and started her doctoral degree at University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in 2005. Within the framework of her doctorate, she participated her first Antarctic Science Expedition with US American and Swedish scientists in 2006 and collected in-situ data on sea ice. Also, she verified satellite images and worked on the interaction of sea ice-climate change in Antarctica.Prof. Burcu Özsoy had been in the charge of Horizon 2020 Project, worked on Arctic and Antarctic regions, which has total budget 3 million Euros conducted by European countries, as the principal investigator of Turkey in 2015. She was the founding director of the Polar Research Center (PolReC), which was established in Istanbul Technical University in January 2015.
Prof. Burcu Özsoy led the - I, - II, - III National Antarctic Science Expeditions held in 2017, 2018, 2019 under the auspices of the Presidency, the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Technology. She coordinated the - IV, - V, - VI National Antarctic Science Expeditions. She received the Polar Studies award at 2020 Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Young Scientist Awards Program. In present, Özsoy is the vice president of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and the director of the Polar Research Institute.
